| This site is located south of the village of Çambel; northeast of the town of Kemalpasa in İzmir Province. . R. Meriç reports that the mound can be found on a 1:100;000 map by Nif Stream; near Nemrut Bridge. There is an orchard on part of the mound. The mound was discovered by R. Meriç in 1987 during his surface survey of the Izmir-Manisa-Aydin Provinces. The site is believed to have been inhabited continually from the Late Neolithic to Antiquity. It has been reported that Hacilar VI Late Neolithic-Early Chalcolithic ceramics were found. No other information has been provided. The site is believed to lie on a Roman trade route. The site was revisited and investigated by a team under Z. Derin during the fieldwork of Bornova-Kemalpaşa (İzmir) Archaeological Inventory. There are EBA materials as well as the Neolithic ones. It is reported that he EBA potsherds are mostly show the characteristics of EBA II period and the wheel made fragments are the evidence of Troia II cultural layers [Derin-Batmaz 2005]. |
